2 COUNSELOR S CORNER Julie Halpern, School Counselor Feelings Aloha Parents, MAHALO FOR SUPPORTING SUSAN G. KOMEN & RACE FOR THE CURE! KA ŌHAO CANCER FIGHTERS RAISED $5, TO HELP END BREAST CANCER! I am continuing our year of Everyone Matters with a focus on RESPECT and FEELINGS. I visited all of the classrooms in September where we watched short videos, read books, brainstormed, or colored in pictures about RESPECT. Each classroom made a short movie where the children all showed different ways that they would show respect with friends and family. I will be going into the classrooms this month where they will watch the finished movie, and we will continue our discussion by exploring FEELINGS. How do we feel? How do we show those feelings? How can we know and understand how others are feeling? By understanding our own feelings, and then being able to identify that in others, we can learn to get along better with our friends and show RESPECT for how others feel! BANANA SPLITS! What s that? It s a small support group for children whose parents are divorced. I ran a group last year, and will start another group this year. Let me know if you are interested for your child. We meet about once a week during lunch or Specials (a different one each week so they don t miss their favorites!) and the group runs about 10 weeks. KINDNESS CLUB is still meeting in my room on Thursdays after school until 3:00. Enjoy the fall break! And I look forward to seeing everyone back for the Halloween Parade! 4 HAWAII STATE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM PRESENTS A HONOLULU THEATRE FOR YOUTH PRODUCTION Lucas loves all things that Sparkle. His whole world is sparkly. Sparkly, sparkle and more sparkle. He loves it so much. One day Isabella comes to play. She doesn t like sparkle at all and Lucas s sparkle starts to dim. This poignant and humorous story is about giving yourself permission to express who you are and stand up for yourself... even if it is in your very own sparkly slippers. These free 30-minute performances are suitable for ages 3 and older. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.
